Arocast #2 (soft)

AROCAST #2 nickel-chrome alloy with no beryllium-a substitute for silver/palladium non-precious alloy designed for the production of high quality full crowns, bridges, inlays, acrylics and composite restorations. It is much softer and easier to cut and grind than other non-precious alloys, comes close to precious in handling, solder, casts and polishes easily. AROCAST #2 is tarnish resistant in the oral environment.

AROCAST #2 (SOFT) is a Nickel - Copper based alloy acceptable for use in fabrication of dental prosthetics and reconstructions.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

WAXING: Routine - same as Type Ill gold or silver and palladium alloys. Minimum ol 0.3 mm - .04 mm thickness.

SPRUING: Same as Type Ill gold. Minimum of 6 - 5 gauge (1.5 mm minimum) for the spru from reservoir to solid units.
The larger the Contact area between the sprue and the pattern, the less defects in the form of misrun or blowholes.

INVESTING: Single layer of asbestos in casting flask - should be thick layer that expands but does not absorb water. (Or use by doubling the asbestos.)

BURNOUT: Use non-preheated furnace. Increase temperature to 1472°F via 20 minutes at 725°F and 30 minutes at 1472°F.

If cracking occurs. lower the temperature setting for the electric furnace 100°F to 200”F.

CASTING: Either induction, argon arc or torch.

INDUCTION - Cast upon slump of the ingot - (do not use flux) preferably when entire surface starts churning.

ARGON ARC - Cast upon slump of the ingot - make certain all material is melted. If using shot or recycling sprues please arrange all pieces on top of each other to insure melting in center of crucible.

TORCH - Cast upon slump of the ingot. Always use oxygen such as city gas plus oxygen, propane gas plus oxygen and/or natural gas plus oxygen. Use a muIliple-orrfice tip only coupled with oxygen, regulator (15 psi max) and gas (10 psi max). Poor casting generally results of not using oxygen regulator that can indicate oxygen pressure.

NOTE ~ Do not quench in water immediately after cast. Remove investment after cooling. When recycling sprues, please insure thorough sandblast to remove investment and oxides - add minimum of 30 - 50% new alloy per cast.

FINISHING: Use tripoli and rouge. Do not use ammonia containing materials. Use carborundum point of rubber wheels or similar. Castings can be polished quicker ii the grinding material wears away last.
